Leading up to Thursday's final preseason game for the New England Patriots against the New York Giants at New Meadowlands Stadium, the primary concern with veteran cornerback Leigh Bodden had been his sore knee, but his play in the previous two preseason games had put those fears to rest. Instead, it was Bodden's shoulder that unexpectedly landed him on injured reserve this week.
Now he has taken the first step towards getting things right for next season, if there is one.
Bodden, who tore his rotator cuff, went in for surgery on Thursday morning to repair the shoulder and Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald revealed how Bodden is keeping his fans and followers updated on his condition. Bodden used his Twitter account to let everyone know he was on his way to the hospital to go under the knife, and it wasn't just one Tweet to say where he was going. Bodden was tweeting from his hospital bed -- "Got the infamous robe wit the ass out so I'll holla at y'all! Thanks again for all the support."
Spikes, a second round pick out of Florida, was apparently in line to strike a deal with the New England-based shoe company, but his agent, Terry Watson, told the Boston Globe, that the offer was revoked.
However, Dan Sarro, a Reebok spokesman told USA Today not only did Reebok pull the offer to Spikes, it never made one in the first place.
"The media reports that Reebok has terminated an endorsement contract with Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes are completely false," Sarro said. "Reebok never had a deal with Brandon. The story was reported without confirmation from Reebok, and as a result inaccurate information is now being reported as fact. We had discussions with Brandon earlier this summer, as we do with many NFL players, but no agreement has been reached and he is not currently under contract with Reebok."
Whatever the case with Reebok, Spikes may find himself in a meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as the sex tape he was a part of may violate the league's code of personal conduct.
"It was something that occurred before he became an NFL draftee and a New England Patriot," Watson told ESPN. "I think for anyone it would be an embarrassing situation. Brandon has shown to many people the kind of person he is before and after being drafted in the second round. He's hoping to put this behind him and looks forward to having a great football season."
He has proposed to a cheerleader on the sideline, donned an imitation Hall of Fame jacket and turned the end zone into his own private putting green. But now Chad Ochocinco has something else up his sleeve for the Cincinnati Bengals' regular-season opener at New England -- and it's likely to make Paul Revere roll over in his grave.
The flashy Bengals wide receiver boasted on his Twitter account Tuesday that -- if he scores a touchdown against the Patriots -- he is going to walk over to where the men dressed as Minutemen form up in their ranks at Gillette Stadium, take one of their rifles and shoot into the air.
"If i am able to score Week 1 in New England i will be taking the Minute Men rifle and firing as they do when the PATS score," Ochocinco tweeted.
Late Tuesday afternoon, a disturbing report surfaced involving New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes. It alleged a sex tape with him as the star making the rounds on the Internet.
Needless to say, this is the last line of questioning Patriots coach Bill Belichick wants to be dealing with 10 days before the start of the 2010 regular season, which is why the organization issued a patented "no comment," when the subject arose yesterday. Unfortunately, in this day and age of stricter personal conduct policies under NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, it won't be that easy for Spikes.
For now, his agent, Terry Watson, is standing out in front and taking the proverbial punches, as the Boston Herald's Karen Guregian detailed.
"It's an embarrassing situation for Brandon," Watson told Guregian. "It certainly doesn't reflect the kind of person that he is."
