What is happening with WBCN?
On March 15, 1968, a new sound emerged from 104.1FM that not only changed Boston radio but had a huge impact on rock music history. The legendary Rock of Boston is credited for breaking U2, The Police and countless other acts in the U.S. and has been a trendsetting radio station in rock radio worldwide for over 40 years. Media reports that WBCN is going away are misleading.
The WBCN music format is about to move to HD. It will broadcast on free, terrestrial radio at 98.5FM-HD2, online at WBCN.com and on mobile phones, such as the iPhone and Blackberry. Before BCN moves to 98.5-2FM, don't miss a
4 Day Farewell to 104.1 WBCN beginning August 8 at 10am.
TV and radio stations are upgrading to HD... and if you haven't upgraded, you've been missing out.
HD radio stations offer a pure digital, high-quality transmission - with the added ability to split one radio signal into 3 different radio stations.
For those who have a traditional radio, 104.1 will become "
Mix 104" (currently known as Mix 98.5). 98.5FM will become "
98.5 The Sports Hub," Boston's first FM Sports station, featuring WBCN's
Toucher & Rich, the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins.
However, beginning August 13, those with a HD radio will have more options... including 3 rock radio stations.
